The news that TXFM is to close was not broken by its own newsteam, but instead by online media.
Drive presenter Joe Donnelly addressed the news during a standard link in his programme, stopping the music at 4.45pm to confirm the closure details.
“So there is probably something that I should address,” Joe said.
“You may have seen reports online or on social media that TXFM is going off air and unfortunately this is true,” he confirmed.
Later in the show, Joe also thanked listeners for their kind words about the station, saying they are sad to hear the news.
Joe later added: “Things didn’t work out – it’s just the nature of the industry. Any media outlet is under pressure to survive.
“We just have to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves down. I’ll still be here we’re just not sure for how long. Let’s not be too sad that it’s all coming to an end,” Joe said on-air today.
“We’re still going to celebrate our birthday tomorrow and play lots of your requests,” said Joe.
