The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland is seeking applications for the provision of community radio services in Castlebar and North West Connemara.
The community radio service for Castlebar and its Environs is currently provided by Community Radio Castlebar FM Limited and broadcasts as Community Radio Castlebar (CRC FM), whilst the community radio service for North West Connemara is currently provided by Connemara Community Radio Limited and broadcasts as Connemara Community Radio. Both contracts expire on 20th June 2017.
Public notices seeking applications have been placed in the relevant local papers.
The BAI says each of the services should be community focused and address the interests of, and seek to provide a social benefit to, the people within the franchise area. The services should be non-profit-maximising and should provide for, and support, access by individuals and groups living in the franchise area.
A Guide to Submissions document for each of the two services advertised today has been produced and made available online.
The closing date for receipt of applications for the services is 12 noon on Thursday 6th October 2016.
